Learning to Knit

Ok.. I'm talking to myself here I fear. I guess that's ok. I tried to teach my grown daughter to knit a few months ago. The session ended with her telling me to just forget it. She was way too frustrated with it. I never realized how difficult it is for people to learn to hold the needles. Forget the yarn... it's holding the needles that seems to be the problem. It makes me sad that I can't pass down this hobby to my daughters. It is the one thing that I will be forever grateful to my own mother for teaching me. I've gotten so much pleasure from it for so many years. My daughter is a high school teacher. She says that knitting is all the rage now with the teenagers. She watches them knit when they have free time and I think she really WANTS to learn but she has minimal patience. So, if any of you millions of readers who read my blog on a daily basis has any suggestions regarding teaching people to knit, let me know. Hey.. I'll check back tomorrow and try to find the time to read all the comments. Ha Ha.

Leftover yarn from Aran Afghan... I think I'll make the Irish Mist hat for my great-niece, Meghan. It's a free pattern to be found on Aboutknitting.com. Cute, cute, cute!! 

remnant socks 

These are my remnant socks. Made from leftover yarn from other projects. I just love them! The pattern is Basic Sock by Regia that you can find online. But, beware, there is an error in that pattern. I emailed them about it but they never changed it...didn't seem to care. My wonderful yarn shop proprietor helped me get it right. Don't you just love knitting socks!

Here are the pieces of the afghan...they are fun to make and constantly changing colors cuts down on boredom. Not having to constantly look at instructions is a nice change for me after the complicated aran pattern. 

This is the book photo of my new afghan project. I like the TLC yarn. It has a nice feel to it and it's a tiny bit shiny which is nice.

Back Again

Well I can't figure out how to put photos on here. I downloaded the "Hello" program and I still don't get it. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep playing with it. What good is a knitting blog without photos?

Currently I'm working on an afghan made out of 8 different FAll colors of TLC yarn. I know I won't be able to keep at it constantly without getting bored so I'm officially giving myself 2 years to complete it. I do get bored with projects where it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel if you know what I mean. The one good thing is that it's an easy pattern of small diamond shaped pieces sewn together. It's mindless knitting whereas my last afghan project required some heavy-duty concentration. So, I can watch a movie or TV and still knit up a storm!

OK, enough for today... back to trying to figure this whole thing out.

Wow... I'm really new at this so I hope everyone will bare with me! I am mesmerized by all the interesting and informative knitting blogs out there and I decided it was time for me start my own. I've mostly been addicted to sock knitting but I think I am slowly getting that out of my system. I recently finished a 10 year project (yes, 10 years of off and on knitting) for my dear mother... an Irish Aran afgan. As soon as I get this whole blog thing figured out I'll be back with some info on me, hopefully some photos, and more on my knitting projects. Happy Knitting!
