ZYX Photo Friday - Featuring the Letter "L"

L IS FOR LANDMARK
n. A prominent identifying feature of a landscape

Blair County has a great history. We have so many impressive buildings and great architecture throughout the county. The building above is Baker Mansion located in Altoona. It was built in 1849 by Elias Baker, owner of the Allegheny Furnace, at a cost of $15,000. It now houses The Blair County Historical Society. (my daughter's new home is a few blocks from here)

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrement in downtown Altoona. They broke ground for this building in 1924, opened it unfinished for worship in 1931 and finally finished it in 1960. It was built as a place of worship for the primarily catholic population who worked the railroad, the industry that founded the city in the mid to late 1800's.

Other Blair County landmarks include:

The Horseshoe Curve

Blair County Ballpark

Fort Roberdeau

Blair County Court House

PS... I took both of the photos above for our office brochure... I think I missed my calling.
